Nursing home to deliver holiday groceries to Dothan area seniors

DOTHAN, Alabama. (November 16, 2018) — Seniors in the Dothan area will get a big help with their holiday meals next week. For the eighth year, Westside Terrace Healthcare, a local nursing home, will deliver holiday groceries and other non-perishable food items to seniors for Thanksgiving. The facility held its annual Cornucopia of Care food drive this month and collected about 2,000 food items and raised $544 to supply grocery bags to area senior citizen centers.
“Celebrating Thanksgiving can be a difficult time for seniors in our community. They may not have money to buy special groceries or they may live alone,” said Westside Terrace administrator Kristie Hughes. “This food drive is an opportunity for us share what we have with people in need.”
The facility’s staff plans to pack 90 bags of groceries Monday and deliver them Tuesday starting at 10 a.m. to various senior centers. Hughes said this is the largest delivery they have ever had for the Cornucopia of Care drive.
“We are so grateful to every person and organization that donated to help us brighten someone’s day,” Hughes said. “In the hustle and bustle of the season, we must never forget to extend a helping hand to the older generation.”
